The Gradient Points Uphill
Read a gradient as an arrow: a direction to climb and a steepness.
You have one tilt per knob. Stack them into a list, in the knobs' own order. That list is the gradient. With two knobs you can draw it as an arrow. The arrow points the steepest way up.
