A Neuron Is a Detector
Read a neuron's weights as a picture of the pattern it is hunting for.
Give a neuron a tiny piece of an image: 3 by 3 pixels, ink or blank. That is nine inputs, so it has nine weights. Now lay those weights out in the same 3 by 3 shape. You get a picture of what the neuron is looking for.
