A Strange Place to Live
Name two things that stop being true when a space has thousands of dimensions.
Take a ball and shave off the outer tenth. In two dimensions that peel is about a fifth of the area. In ten dimensions it is about two thirds. In a hundred, more than 99.99 percent. The middle of a high-dimensional ball is nearly empty. Almost everything sits near the edge.
