Read a hidden layer as a set of coordinates the network invented for itself.
In 2012 a network called AlexNet won the ImageNet contest with a top-five error of 15.3 percent. The next entry scored 26.2. It had about 60 million parameters and 650,000 neurons. Nobody told it what to look for.
